The motor runs erratically.  Rate it

Turn the power off at the tester. Disconnect the tester power cord from the power source. Remove the motor brushes. The brushes are located at the bottom of the motor. Remove the two plastic caps with a screwdriver on the right and left had sides of the motor. Inspect for even wear and the brushes are dry. If the brushes show signs of oil, the motor shaft seal at the gearbox is leaking. The motor must be replaced. If the brushes are worn to or past the minimum brush length indicator marked on the brushes, replace the brushes.

My 94 or 95 series tester blows fuses.  Rate it

Remove the motor brushes. Inspect for wear and signs of oil. If the brushes are covered with oil the motor shaft seal is leaking. The motor must be replaced. If the motor brushes appear to be good the problem is most likely a failed motor power supply(SCR board). Contact Com-Ten Industries for replacement.

How can I check speed calibration?  Rate it

The speed is controlled by the motor controller in the test stand. If the speed display is not correct first clean the opto disk. To check speed measure the time it takes to travel a fixed distance. Distance / time = speed. If speed is not correct clean the opto reader with an air supply. Inspect the opto disk. Replace the opto disk then the opto reader.

My 95 tester is starting to make noise.  Rate it

Check and lubricate the power screw and bearing between the pillow block and driven gear. Fina Marson Liplex ET NLGI #2 is the preferred lubricant. At the tester turn off the power and disconnect the power cord. Remove and inspect the motor brushes. The brushes are located at the bottom of the motor under plastic screw caps. It requires a flat blade screwdriver. Make sure the carbon brushes are equal length. Often removing and reinserting the brushes cures noise problems.

How do i attach my HFG or CFG gauge cell to the tester.  Rate it

For this operation please check your operators manual. Remove the gear guard or flip the top cover up. Thread the driven gear off the top of the power screw. Slide the center of the load cell over the hole in the top cell bar that passes the power screw. Align the threaded holes in the load cell with the mounting holes in the top cell bar. Insert two thumbscrews through the holes and thread into the load cell. Raise power screw through load cell. Spin driven gear onto power screw. Lower power screw until drive and driven gears engage. The pins in the driven gear must fit into the holes in the top of the load cell. Tighten mounting thumbscrews. Reattach gear guard or top cover.
